Booked Up on 216 S Center St
Their business hours state until 5pm. We arrived at 4:40pm to quickly skim a specific section of books. The woman running the store said that building was already locked for the day, no offer to unlock it and let me look for what I was hoping to find. Please do not go here if you're thinking their business hours really are until 5pm. They will not let you shop if they already locked the building well before close of business. Long drive for nothing.

This is Larry McMurtry's book store. (Author of Lonesome Dove and many other books) Very extensive collection of books; many rare. What many people probably don't realize is that Archer City is in the general area of where the men who inspired that famous novel ranch.

Went yesterday after wanting to visit for several years. Great selection of signed McMurtry books; great selection of all types of literature. You will have to search; you will have to walk up and down aisles, and you may have to ask for some help. But a really great experience. Very fair prices and the people there were nice. Will return soon.

Other than the Strand of New York, this is the most extensive collection of books I've encountered. The books here are much more eclectic than one normally sees. The travel and African related sections are the most robust. Every tenth books is one I've either only heard about or have neither seen or heard of. The manager, Crystal, is pleasant to deal with. Occasionally Mr. McMurtry is occasionally there as well. He's a great guy, but soft-spoken, so one has to listen very closely. It is well worth the drive to Archer City, which is a bit out of the way.

I've honestly never seen a book store like it. When I say they literally have nearly every book imaginable, I'm not exaggerating. Rows upon rows of floor to ceiling book shelves with often poorly organized books, however, make it nearly impossible to find anything specific you might be looking for. Nonetheless, definitely something to be experienced.
